Qualifying for LHFL Tiers
Fighters competing at LHFL events will be able to compete in three different intensity levels: Light, Standard, and Premier.
This is a category geared toward fighters who seek a lower intensity competition, newer/less experienced practitioners, people currently out-of-practice, and fighters recovering from injuries. To avoid exploitation, a set of requirements must be met to participate in Light Longsword:
Participant has competed and has not advanced past the pools in any OPEN* LONGSWORD event in the past 2 years
Participant has never placed in the top 16 slots in any LHFL tournament in their entire career
Participant has never medaled in any OPEN* LONGSWORD tournament in their entire career
Participant is recovering from critical injury and is demonstrably unable to perform at a higher intensity tournament. In this event, an otherwise qualified as Standard category competitor may opt and be cleared to compete in Light.
Participating in Standard Longsword is usually the default for all fighters and has no requirements.
Premier is the most intense and engaging category in the entire League. A participant in Premier must have demonstrated exceptional skill through a decorated presence in open* longsword tournaments. While participation in Premier is usually by invitation, one may request to be upgraded to this higher challenge.
The LHFL and the event host MAY (depending on slots available) opt to place a fighter in Premier if one or more of the bellow requirements are met:
Participant has earned 1 medal in OPEN* LONGSWORD in any major event (over 50ppl) in the past 2 years
Participant has placed in the top eight spots in the Standard Longsword category of a LHFS event in the past year regardless of participants registered
The LHFL and the event host MUST** (regardless of slots available) place a fighter in Premier if one or more of the bellow requirements are met:
Participant has earned 2 medals in OPEN* LONGSWORD in any major event (over 50ppl) in the past 2 years
Participant has placed in the top eight spots in the “Premier Longsword” category of a LHFS event in the past two years regardless of participants registered
Participant has finished in the top 50% of any previous Premier event in the past year
Participant has advanced to the Quarterfinals in either Longpoint or Swordfish anytime during their career
Participant has achieved "top contender" status (8th and 9th spot in the LHFL "Top Eight" Hall of Fame race) in the past 3 years
Participant has been inducted into the "Top Eight" Hall of Fame in Longpoint League anytime during their career
Participant is recovering from critical injury and is demonstrably unable to perform at a higher intensity tournament. In this event, a Premier category competitor may opt and be cleared to compete in Standard.
BONUS—The Wildcard: the gold medalist for "Standard Longsword" in a particular LHFL event will be given the right to additionally compete at Premier at the same event as “The Wildcard”. Should that happen, The Wildcard will be awarded the points earned in either Standard or Premier, whichever is highest, but not the sum of both.
Fillers: Additionally, should the required number of fighters to form a Premier tier at a particular LHFL tournament not be reached, the LHFL reserves the right to upgrade Standard tier fighters who have demonstrated a stable, solidly high-performing career, into Premier, within a day’s notice, bypassing the above requirements. These fighters will fight in Premier as "Fillers". While said participation in Premier for the specific event will not grandfather a Filler into Premier for the entire season, their performance may fulfill the requirements for their participation into Premier the next season.
*Open longsword is any longsword tournament that is open to everyone without restrictions or limitations of any kind, namely skill level (rookie, premier etc), age (teen, seniors etc) physical attributes such as weight and height, gender etc.
